Nuits Saint Georges 1er Cru

Clos des Argillières

Red wines from Nuits-Saint-Georges almost always have a dark and intense color. Their aromas are powerful and complex, mixing simultaneously cherries, blackcurrants, fur, truffles and spices. They are among the most tannic Burgundies. The combination of tannin and body makes for big, solid wines.

The vineyard

Vineyard placement and geology : At the top of the slope opposite the domaine, the vines are in poor brown soil on base of pink Premeaux limestone at the bottom of the parcel and white oolite towards the top. It’s the domaine’s largest parcel at 1.8 ha.
Vine age : 50 years on average
Yield and production :25-35 hl/ha for an average annual production of 7500 bottles

The wine

Vinification
Hand-harvested and scrupulously sorted, the wine is fermented in open stainless steel tanks for around three weeks, then matured in oak barrels, about 50% new, for 18 months.

Tasting notes
To the eye : the wine is dark and purple
On the nose : Blackberries dominate the nose, along with blackcurrants and blueberries. There is a more savage side exhibited in the notes of juniper and hawthorn. Even if in youth the nose is discreet, its class is always evident.
On the palate : concentrated and deep, but with elegance primordial. The tannins are fine, but a certain firmness holds place. A welcome minerality supports the finish

Drinking tips
Its elegant structure marries well with dishes such as saddle of lamb, rib steaks or duck breasts.
Serve at around 16C-17C. Will age well for 7-15 years.
