Côte de Nuits Villages
vieilles vignes
The spirit of Cote de Nuits wines is evident here, particularly on the nose, but this wine is generally less structured than other Village-level Burgundies. This wine is therefore more accessible in its youth, and is excellent value for money.
The Vineyard
Vineyard placement and geology: Situated in the village on Comblanchien, the vines are in limey, sandy soil with lots of small stones.
Vine age: 45 years on average
Yield and production: 35-45 hl/ha for an average annual production of 6000 bottles.
The Wine
Vinification
Hand-harvested and scrupulously sorted, the wine is fermented in open stainless steel tanks for around three weeks, then matured in oak barrels, with about 5% new oak, for 15-16 months
Tasting notes
To the eye, the wine is a deep, sparkling purple.
On the nose, small red fruits dominate, notably raspberries and sour cherries.
On the palate, the wine is supple because of round tannins and immediately drinkable, with a bright freshness.
Drinking tips
Its light, silky texture goes perfectly with simpler dishes.
Serve at around 16C-17C. Will age well for 2-8 years.
